State Teaching Job Initiatives
The Washington State Department of Education established the Washington Center for Teaching Careers (WATeach), in order to help match prospective educators with teaching jobs in Washington. The WATeach website includes online tools for posting resumes, and searching and browsing teaching jobs, as well as information on teacher certification and requirements. The Washington School Personnel Association (WSPA) also posts its own job listings and resources for teachers.

In 2007, Washington ranked 21st in the nation for teacher pay, with an average teacher salary of $47,880. Salaries and benefits for Washington teaching jobs depend on both experience and qualifications.
Professional Development
The Washington Department of Public Instruction publishes Professional Growth Needs Assessment Worksheets in Reading, Writing, Communication, and Science for grade levels K-10. The worksheets are aimed at assisting both educators and their students in continued development. The Washington Teaching and Learning program provides additional resources for development.
Benefits & Retirement
Retirement benefits for education jobs in Washington are handled by the Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS). TRS provides three different retirements plans; one for employees who have established TRS members before October 1st, 1977, and two for employees who have established memberships after that date.
