The Utah State Office of Education maintains up-to-date listings of teaching vacancies and other available education jobs through TeachUtah.org. After registering for free membership on the website, individuals can browse teaching positions by school and specialty, post and submit applications, and receive email notifications based on location and specialty preferences as soon as jobs become available. Local school districts update the list of teaching positions on TeachUtah.org daily.

In 2008, the average teacher salary in Utah was $43,175. Together with benefits, the average total compensation for teachers in Utah was $63,726. Teachers at charter schools made an average salary of $33,696 for a total compensation of $47,016, while public school teachers made an average salary of $44,339 for a total compensation of $66,397. Professional Development
The Utah State Office of Education’s Department of Educator Quality & Licensing oversees an extensive professional development program for teachers in Utah. Credits may be earned through a variety of classes and workshops, and used towards continuing education, license renewal, or certification as a “Highly Qualified” teacher, in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act. Professional development for teachers in Utah follows a 3-Level process. Level 1 consists of working with a mentor, accumulating at least 3 years of teaching experience, and taking a Praxis II content test, if applicable. Level 2 consists of a 5-year license renewal cycle, together with a master’s degree, evaluation of student performances, and additional professional development work. Teachers who complete Level-3, by attaining a doctorate degree, and fulfilling a 7-year license renewal cycle, are considered distinguished educators. Successful completion of a professional development level is generally met with salary or benefits increases.

Benefits and retirement are handled by the Utah Retirement System, which provides extensive coverage for teachers in Utah, as well as a variety of online resources.
