The North Dakota State Government maintains Job Service North Dakota, a comprehensive online resource for individuals in search of teaching jobs in North Dakota. Job Service North Dakota publishes the latest news on North Dakota jobs, and includes an interactive map which links to county-specific job resources. The website also offers ND Workforce Connection, a searchable online database of job vacancies in North Dakota. Once users register with ND Workforce Connection for free, they are able to browse North Dakota teaching jobs by school, salary, location, and specialty.

Salary & Incentives

North Dakota ranked 48th in the nation for teacher pay in 2007 with an average salary of $38,586. Teachers with no college degree earned an average of $37,930, teachers with a bachelor’s degree earned an average of $36,491, teachers with a master’s degree earned an average of $49,487, and teachers with a doctorate degree earned an average of $77,777.

Professional Development

The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction requires that all schools engage in ongoing professional development activities; however, specific professional development events are often left up to individual schools or school districts. In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, many schools in North Dakota participate in data chats and group discussions as a part of professional development.

Benefits & Retirement

All North Dakota public school teachers are automatically members of the the Teachers’ Fund for Retirement (TFFR), which is administered by the North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office. The TFFR provides Tier 1 benefits to teachers whose age and years of service total 85 (for example: 60 years old & 25 years of service), and Tier 2 benefits to teachers whose age and years of service total 90. Teachers are eligible for early retirement at age 55. Difference in most benefits between Tier 1 and Tier 2 are minimal.
