In order to create an account, prospective teachers must provide their contact information, employment history, teaching credentials, education, availability, and specific skills. Individuals in search of Nevada teaching jobs are then able to browse, search, and apply for teaching vacancies posted on NV-APPS.

Salary & Incentives

In 2007, Nevada ranked 19th in the nation for teacher pay, with an average teacher salary of $49,426. School districts in Nevada follow their own salary schedules, which reward teachers both for college degree levels and for years of teaching experience. The 2009 Washoe County teacher salary schedule listed salaries ranging from $32,820 for new teachers without a college degree, to $70,697 for teachers with a doctorate degree and 21+ years of teaching experience.

Professional Development

Professional development for Nevada teaching jobs is handled by regional organizations. Professional development opportunities range from 1-2 day workshops to inservice training programs. The Nevada Department of Education also publishes its own list of approved teacher education programs.

Benefits & Retirement

Nevada public school teachers are enrolled in the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Nevada (PERS), and are eligible to receive retirement benefits after 5 years of service at age 65, after 10 years of service at age 60, and at any age after 30 years of service.
