Salary & Incentives

Hawaii ranks 14th in the nation for teacher pay with an average salary of $51,916. Hawaii follows a salary schedule for teachers that increases pay for each year and experience, and for each college degree level. Salaries range from $32,713 for a first-year teacher with a bachelor’s degree, to over $60,000 for veteran teachers with doctorate degrees. Hawaii offers additional bonuses to teachers who accept positions in special education, or who are required to relocate in order to begin teaching.

The Professional Development Support Unit (PDSU) runs the Professional Development Credit Program, which connects teachers in Hawaii with creditable professional development programs. The Professional Development Credit Program website includes course listings for professional development opportunities, as well as information regarding credit.
