State Teaching Job Initiatives

The Colorado State Board of Education is in a current state of crisis with teacher shortages. Because of this problem, there has been a very high turnover rate. Colorado has been attempting to hire more qualified teachers to lower the turnover rate. Some districts in Colorado are even testing new certification requirements and programs to see if this will help with the shortage crisis. However, like most states, Colorado does not maintain a website specifically for listing teaching jobs.

Colorado ranked 28th in the nation for teaching pay in 2007, with an overall average salary of $45,832. This number has increased recently, as the average base salary for Colorado teachers for 2009 was $59,820, with an annual salary range of $52,908 -$76,344. Salaries vary widely by district, with averages ranging from $30,000 to over $50,000. Salaries for Colorado teaching jobs increase according to years of teaching experience, and college degree level.

Professional Development

Colorado’s Professional Development program aims to improve teaching and administration, and indirectly the students. Every five years, a teacher is required to complete 90 hours of professional development activities.
