The California Department of Education website offers a comprehensive teacher job page that includes certification information, resources, career analysis, and a teacher shortage page. This site details how teaching in California works as well as highlights the needs the State is looking to address. Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, California is looking to boost the education system as well as expand the market of California teacher jobs.

Salary and Incentives

In 2007, California ranked 1st in the nation for teacher pay, with an average salary of $63,640. Compensation for teachers has continued to rise in California, with the average annual base salary for teachers in 2009 at $74,023, with an annual salary range of $57,828 – $77,448. School districts in California each set their own salary schedules for teachers, which increase pay depending on years of teaching experience and college degree level.

Professional Development

California’s Department of Education lists a series of professional development initiatives designed to keep the teaching profession dynamic and constantly improving. California plans to implement NCLB Title II, Part A regulations/requirements to prepare, train and recruit highly qualified teachers and principals. This program is based on a series of programs designed to inspire teachers to improve their ability and methods through training and mandatory development processes.
